You may not realize it, but it happens quite often - you may smile dozens of times each day. A child, your partner, or even your favorite pet may make you smile. No matter how often you smile, you want your smile to look amazing. When you smile, what do people see? Your bright and shiny teeth or your gums? If you have a smile with more gums than teeth, there are ways to fix your gummy smile.
Orthodontics
You need to have one of our dentists look at your gummy smile because gummy smiles have several causes. One of the main causes of your gummy smile is a malocclusion - or a bite issue. If the problem is your bite, braces or clear aligners may fix the problem and erase your gummy smile.
Veneers and Crowns
If you have gummy smile issues on one of your jawbones, our dentist may be able to solve the problem by crowning some of your teeth or by using veneers. Crowns are normally used to cover and protect teeth that have been diseased, cracked, chipped, or broken. However, they can also be used to make teeth appear larger and gums appear smaller. Veneers, which are porcelain covers for your teeth, can also make gums appear smaller and teeth appear larger. Both crowns and veneers can last for 20 years or longer with proper care.
Gum Lift
You may be eligible to have a gum lift if you have a fleshy or gummy smile. Gum lifts can use surgery or lasers to reduce the amount of gum tissue you have over some or all of your teeth. Many dentists are opting to use lasers to get rid of excess gum tissue because lasers can kill germs, and patients end up with less blood and fewer stitches, which speeds healing.
If you dislike your gummy smile, we can help. Why not give us a call to set up an appointment? We will be happy to set up a consultation for you to talk to our dentist.
