Dental Bonding Oxnard, CA

Have you ever chipped or broken a tooth?

Do you wish to regain your natural smile but are unsure how to go about it?

If you answered yes, there is an easy and attractive solution: dental bonding.

Our Oxnard dentists are ready to help you restore your damaged tooth.

What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is an aesthetic procedure also referred to as composite bonding, where teeth that have cracked, chipped, broken, discolored, or spaced are corrected into the desired look.

Bonding also helps lengthen teeth that appear shorter than others.

The composite material resembles the natural tooth color and takes place over where your tooth was damaged to improve the way it looks.

Dental bonding is an inexpensive cosmetic procedure that makes aesthetic improvements to teeth and smiles. You would require bonding to correct a malformation or defect. Dental bonding can even change the tooth's shape.

The procedure takes about an hour or a half but solely depends on the complexity of the patient's condition. We can help you achieve your desired smile and look at .

Dental Bonding Procedure

A tooth bonding procedure starts with choosing a color shade of the composite material that is most desired and that closely resembles your natural teeth.

Our dentist then roughens or polishes the tooth surface to ready it for the bonding material. Then our dentist will then apply an adhesive liquid to enable the composite bonding material to attach to the teeth.

The bonding material is then applied to the teeth, and a special UV light or laser is shone over them to harden or cure them into place.

Our dentist will shape the tooth to achieve the desired shape and look. Often, anesthesia is not used as the dentist works nowhere near the nerves or sensitive parts of the tooth; therefore, the procedure is painless.

Nonetheless, dental bonding is versatile, convenient, and a fast cosmetic restoration procedure compared to crown placement or veneers and is used to make minimal cosmetic changes to your smile and teeth.

More dramatic cosmetic transformations would call for more complex cosmetic procedures.

It is important to remember that though the material is sturdy and durable, it is not as strong as your natural teeth and is prone to chipping or breaking off of the teeth when you chew on hard objects or bite on ice.

The discoloration is also inevitable as the composite material, like your natural teeth, is prone to staining, especially if you do things like smoke or drink coffee.

Bonding may not be a good fit for you if your teeth are extremely damaged or decayed.

Some decay extent would necessitate other dental restorative options like crowns, especially if tooth strength and structure are compromised.

Addtional things to know about bonding

Dental bondings can last for quite a while, depending on the care they are afforded.

Care requirements like brushing and flossing twice a day and using an antibacterial mouth rinse go a long way in ensuring a healthy dental cavity.

Patients need to limit their coffee, tobacco, or alcohol use, especially for a while after the procedure, to avoid staining, and avoid chewing on hard foods and objects, including nails.

Patients should also visit us regularly for follow-ups and maintenance. If your bonding breaks or chips off the tooth, visit the dentist immediately for repair.

Sharp edges after a bonding procedure that do not wear away after some days should also be reported back to the dentist for edging.
